Guo Shuzhen, a famous Chinese soprano and music educator, graduated from the Central Conservatory of Music in 1952 and from the Tchaikovsky Conservatory in Moscow in 1958 (under the tutelage of the People's Artist Е-Kaтульская Y. Kadurskaya) with a diploma of honours and the title of outstanding vocalist; in 1957 she won the First Prize and the gold medal at the International Vocal Competition. 1958. In 1958, the Stanislavsky, Danchenko Model Music Theatre in Moscow and the Bolshoi Theatre in Lviv, Ukraine, invited Guo Shuzhen to play the role of Mimi in Puccini's opera "La Boheme"" and Tatyana in Tchaikovsky's opera "Yevgeny Onegin". The performances were critically acclaimed and were hailed as Pushkin and Tchaikovsky-esque heroines by the famous music critic Yeh Glosheva.

She has been active on the music stage in the 1960s. She gave a series of recitals in Beijing, Tianjin, Wuhan, Hong Kong, the former Leningrad, Lviv, and visited various parts of the world, including Germany, the USA, Canada, Cuba, Colombia, Venezuela, Vienna, etc. The premiere of Yevgeny Onegin with the Central Opera Theatre in Beijing in 1963 was well received by all sectors of the society and was highly acclaimed. Recorded and released by the China Record Company, the repertoire includes works by Mozart, Verdi, Puccini, Wagner, Tchaikovsky, Rachmaninoff, Dvorak, Grieg, De Falla and other composers, as well as by Chinese composers such as Huang Zi, Xian Xinghai, Nie Er, Jiang Wenyi, and Qu Xixian. Her Singing was praised by experts and the general audience. In 1989 she won the first National Golden Record Award. and in 1997 China National Records Corporation published and distributed "The 100 Collections of Chinese Singing Celebrities in 20th Century for collector's edition" (CD) with which the co-operation of the orchestra and so on.

As a professor of Vocal Music and Opera department of Central Conservatory of Music, she has cultivated many outstanding young singers, they have made outstanding achievements in their respective positions, and some have stepped on the world vocal music stage. In 1988, Guo Shuzhen won the Outstanding Teacher Award of the National Art School Art Song Singing Competition. In 1997, he won the first prize of National Higher Education Teaching Achievement.

Shc was invited to be the supervisor of the post graduate at China Conservatory of Music, honorary professor of Tianjin Conservatory of Music, and member of previous professional Evaluation Committee of the Ministry of Culture of the CPC,and has the judge for many important vocal competitions at home and abroad.
