President Wang Cizhao Meets with the Delegation of Manhattan School of Music

On the afternoon of May 21, 2013, Professor Wang Cizhao, President of CCOM, met with Professor Marjorie Merryman, Vice President of Manhattan School of Music (MSM) for Academics and Performance, and Ms. Christianne Orto, Associate Dean of Distance Learning & Director of Recording of MSM. They discussed related matters, such as renewing the Intercollegiate Exchange and Cooperation Agreement, developing further intercollegiate academic communication, and revising the part of agreement, etc. Some related executive officers of CCOM, including Professor Liu Hongzhu, Director of International Affairs Office, Professor Jia Guoping, Library Director, Professor Kenneth Fields, person in charge of Distance Learning, etc. attended the meeting.

CCOM President Wang Zizhao and MSM Vice President Marjorie Merryman, Associate Dean of Distance Learning Christianne Orto reviewed the works concerning the development of academic exchanges between two schools in the past few years. Professor Merryman said that more and more Chinese students from CCOM entered Manhattan School of Music. These students' outstanding performances proved that CCOM has a strong faculty team with great attainments and rich teaching experiences. She also invited President Wang Cizhao and CCOM professors to visit MSM and hold master classes in MSM. President Wang warmly welcomed the guests and accepted Professor Merryman's invitation. He said that, at the proper time, he would lead the CCOM delegation to visit Manhattan School of Music present at the agreement signing ceremony, and attend the lectures given by CCOM professors. He wished that the teachers and students of MSM would learn more about CCOM through their visit, which would develop deeply the intercollegiate cooperation relationship.

In this meeting, the both sides of CCOM and MSM increased more contents, such as exchange student project, distance learning (including multimedia network master class), joint concerts, and teachers exchange visit, etc., in the revised version of the agreement.

After the meeting, Professor Merryman and Ms. Orto visited the teaching building and sat in the rehearsals of chamber music class and traditional instrumental ensemble. They also had a discussion and exchange the ideas on multimedia and long distance teaching with Professor Kenneth Fields in his studio. The short visit in CCOM left a deep impression on the guests of MSM.
