Presenting the Beauty of Chinese Culture, Exploring the Wonder of Chinese Music--"Chinese Music Summer School" Opens!

On the evening of July 3, a program featuring the international music education and exchange-the 4th Confucius Institute International Music Summer Camp "Chinese Music Summer School" was inaugurated at CCOM Concert Hall. The event is supported by the Confucius Institute Headquarters/Hanban and all walks of life, hosted by CCOM and organized by Center for the Exchange and Experience of Chinese and Foreign Music Cultures & Music Confucius Institute (MCI) Office.

About 60 music-major teachers and students from the United States, Canada, South Africa and Denmark watched the opening concert which features both modern Chinese classic works and the world premiere of new works commissioned by MCI in Denmark together with over 600 audiences. During the concert, CCOM teachers including Prof. Xue Ke, Associate Prof. Yuan Feifan, Associate Prof. Chen Bing, Associate Prof. Lan Weiwei, Amber Quartet and some students jointly performed 9 splendid and original modern pieces, which won wide acclaim and warm applauses from the audience.

On July 5, hosted by Dr. Zhang Lexin, Project Manager of the Center & MCI Office, the fraternity of international teachers and student was held at the Auditorium of CCOM. Vice-President of CCOM and Chairman of Chinese Musicians Association Prof. Ye Xiaogang attended the activity and delivered a welcoming address. Prof. Ye said, the students will experience a meaningful and happy time in Beijing in the hot summer, he believes, after attending abundant courses during the two weeks in the summer school, the students will have a deeper feeling and understanding of Chinese music culture. Prof. Liu Yuening, Director of the Center & MCI Office shared with the international teachers and students the highlights of previous summer camps, she said, the summer school of this year will be a high-end academic activity of international education and exchange, about a hundred experts and scholars from CCOM and outside, national class performers and outstanding teachers and students will present the glamour of Chinese music and the beauty of Chinese culture through multi-perspectives. Afterwards, representatives from each group went on the stage and talked about their impressions about China, Beijing and the summer school, and expressed their expectations for the colorful activities in the following days covering demonstration concerts, expert lectures of music, maestro workshops, Chinese instruments workshops, cultural visits, report/closing concert, etc..

The International Music Summer Camp has been successfully held for 4 years, totally 166 music-major teachers and students from the Confucius Institutes of 11 prestigious universities of 8 countries and 5 continents have been invited to visit China. With high professionality and extensive fusion of global musical cultures, the program has gained favorable reputation and wide acclaim from home and abroad, becoming an opportunity for international teachers and students to understand and enjoy Chinese music, as well as an important cross-cultural sharing and understanding experience.

In the "Chinese Music Summer School" of this year, we will further present the glamour of Chinese art and culture, as was mentioned in the speech of Ms. Guo Shulan, Secretary of the Party Committee of CCOM at the opening concert, "Through 'Confucius Institute International Music Summer Camp'-a platform of international education and exchange, we can jointly promote the co-development and prosperity of world music cultures. With the national cultural development strategy as its own mission, CCOM will make positive contributions to the international communication, education and exchange of splendid Chinese culture".
