Students of CCOM Middle School Namisa Sun and Jiang Zhenyi Win Prizes in the 10th International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians

In the 10th International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians closed recently, Namisa Sun, the first-year student of CCOM High School, won the Second Prize of Cello Section; and Jiang Zhenyi, the third-year student of CCOM Middle School, won the Third Prize of Violin Section. In recent years, it is the best result that students of CCOM Middle School achieved in such top-class international competitions. Congratulations to Namisa Sun and her advisors Professor Song Tao and Associate Professor Zhu Mu, and to Jiang Zhenyi and his Advisors Professor Zhao Wei and teacher Chen Xi.

International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians is the cradle of many famous musicians and one of the most influential music competitions for youth. A number of CCOM's Alumni, including world renowned pianist Lang Lang, concertmaster of the Deutsches Symphonie-Orchester Berlin Lu Wei, cello principle of Colon Opera House Tian Bonian, concertmaster of China NCPA Orchestra Xiaoyu Yang, etc. were achieved great results in this Competition.

Final Round & Prize-Awarding Ceremony

There are three sections of piano, violin and cello, and each section has three rounds in the competition. In the First and Second rounds of violin and cello sections, contestants performed with piano accompaniment. In the Third round, contestants performed with Eurasian Symphony Orchestra of Kazakhstan at June 23rd. The Jury of 10th International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians has a strong lineup, consisting of many world famous musicians from Russia, Finland, Hungary, China, South Korea and Kazakhstan. Jury members include the Chair of Jury Viktor Tretyakov who are the First Prize Winner of the First International Tchaikovsky Competition in 1966, maestro Eduard Grach who has the honor of People's Artist of the USSR and is also the leading scholar of Russian education field, etc. It is worth to mention that Professor Namula of CCOM Middle School and Associate Professor Wang Xiaohan of CCOM were also invited to become the Jury members of Cello section and Piano section respectively. There were more than 620 contestants from over 30 countries who apply the competition. After the video audition, over 130 contestants had a chance to participate in the formal competition held in Astana of Kazakhstan. The Competition draw great attention in the domestic of Kazakhstan and was listed as one of the three great international events, following the Leaders' Summit of Shanghai Cooperation Organization and the Opening Ceremony of the World Expo, in June 2017 of Kazakhstan.

Prize Winners

June 23 is a memorable date for Chinese contestants. Fifteen years ago, on the same day, Chen Xi, the teacher of CCOM and the advisor of Jiang Shenyi, who were the senior student of CCOM High School at that time, won the top prize of Violin Section at the 12th International Tchaikovsky Competition. The President of Russia Putin attended the Awarding Ceremony of the 12th International Tchaikovsky Competition.

Namisa Sun and Jiang Zhenyi won great prizes at the International Tchaikovsky Competition for Young Musicians. The achievement presented another success of our school's string teaching and won the honor for our country and school.
