"China Story" Performed in San Jose-Ye Xiaogang and Costa Rica National Symphony Orchestra Concert

On December 2, 2016, "China Story-Ye Xiaogang and Costa Rica National Symphony Orchestra Concert" was held successfully by Costa Rica National Symphony Orchestra in the National Music Center of San Jose, the Capital of Costa Rica. For attending the Tenth National Representatives Congress of CFLAC (China Federation of Literary and Art Circles), Professor Ye Xiaogang, the composer of the concert repertoire and the Vice President of the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing, the Chairman of Chinese Musicians Association, the member of the National Committee of CPPCC, couldn't present at the concert on that day.

The honored guests who attended the concert included: Osca Arias Sanchez, former President of Costa Rica and the winner of Novel Peace Prize, Chinese Ambassador to Costa Rica Song Yanbin, Chinese Counselor to Costa Rica Wang Zhaoqin, President of Chinese Federations of Costa Rica Wan Lili, Chairman of Beijing Performing Arts Group Kang Wei, and individuals from all communities of Costa Rica.

It was the first time that renowned Chinese composer Ye Xiaogang's compositions being performed in Latin America. It was also the first time that Costa Rican audiences listened a renowned Chinese contemporary composer's music. The concert was called "a Historical Moment" by the music circle of Costa Rica.

In the concert, Costa Rica National Symphony Orchestra conducted by American conductor Jose Serebrier and pianist Sergio Sandi, cooperated with three Chinese musicians Yang Xue (associate professor of CCOM), Li Le (teacher of Tianjin Music Conservatory and alumnus of CCOM) and Liu Fanhe (a graduate student of CCOM), jointly performed three symphonic compositions of Ye Xiaogang, Sichuan Image (2014), Starry Sky (2008) and Concerto of Life (2000).

On the first half of the concert, Costa Rica National Symphony Orchestra played symphonic poem Sichuan Image which was commissioned by Sichuan Philharmonic Orchestra in 2014 for TV pictures. On the second half of the concert, Costa Rican pianist Sergio Sandi who is living in USA and the orchestra played Starry Sky which was composed by Ye for the Opening Ceremony of 2008 Beijing Olympic Games. Concerto of Life was composed for the same name movie in 2000. The Education Department of the Ministry of Culture of P. R. China held a symposium on Concerto of Life in Beijing and the participants held the view that "the music of the film was amazingly skillful and graceful."

The World Tour Project of "China Story" has been held successfully in New York Lincoln Center of USA in 2013, in Munich and Saarbruecken of German in 2014, in London of Britain in 2015 and in Costa Rica in 2016. Meanwhile, 2017 World Tour events of "China Story" in Moscow of Russia, Edinburgh and Glasgow of Britain, and Berlin of German are also in active preparation.

In response to President Xi Jinping's call of "telling Chinese stories well and spreading Chinese voices well," Chinese musicians make efforts to promote Chinese culture presented to the world, to carry out multi-level cultural communication and mutual learning. They have made outstanding contributions for enhancing the influence of Chinese culture in the world and achieving the "China Dream" on the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation.
