The Middle School of CCOM and Rhenish Music School in Cologne Sign Agreement to Become Friendship School

On October 10, 2016, the Middle School of CCOM welcomed the honored guest: the Delegation of Rhenish Music School in Cologne (Rheinische Musikschule der Stadt Koln) and Cologne Youth Symphony Orchestra. Cologne Youth Symphony Orchestra and CCOM Juvenile Symphony Orchestra jointly held two concerts respectively in the Concert Hall of CCOM Middle School on October 13 and in Beijing Concert Hall on October 15, 2016. The repertoire of the joint concerts includes Die Meistersinger von Nurnberg: Overture by Richard Wagner, Cello Concerto No.1 in a minor, Op.33 by Camille Saint-Saens, and Symphony No.4 in d minor by Robert Schumann.

On the evening of October 13, before the joint concert, the Middle School of CCOM and Rhenish Music School in Cologne signed the agreement and two schools became Friendship School formally.

The honored guests who attended the signing ceremony and concert on the evening of October 13 included: Cultural Counsellor of German Embassy in Beijing Enrico Brandt, President of CCOM Yu Feng, Principal of Rhenish Music School in Cologne Tilman Fischer, visiting teachers from Germany, Deputy Secretary of the Party Committee of CCOM Pang Huanlei, Vice President of CCOM Zhou Haihong, Principal of the Middle School of CCOM Na Mu La, other leaders and teachers of the Middle School of CCOM, Officials from the European Division of International Cooperation and Exchanges Department of Educational Ministry, China Youth Federation and the Goethe-Institut in China. News reporters from music channel of CCTV, BTV News channel, Musical Instruments Journal, BAMC, Music Weekly, etc. also attended the ceremony and the later concert.

In the speech, Mr. Brandt addressed that "the Rhenish Music School and Cologne Youth Symphony Orchestra's visit and academic exchange in the Middle School of CCOM in Beijing coincided with the Sino-German Youth Exchange Year which is due to the 2015 agreement between Germany and China governments and was jointly kicked off by the President of Germany Joachim Gauck and the President of China Xi Jinping at the Great Hall of the People in March 2016. ……We believe that our contacting network through the communications to each other will also carry a lot of possibilities in the future. Both schools have signed the cooperation agreement formally. I wish our cooperation would last for a long time and lay a good foundation for the exchange events on both sides. "

President Yu pointed out in his speech that "Cologne Youth Symphony Orchestra's return visit happens to coincide with the aim of CCOM 'to strengthen the cooperation with world-class school and orchestra.' In the course of building up "Double Top-class" Universities, we make great efforts to construct high level platform and to promote the growth of music talents. We hope the cooperation between our schools will bring more opportunities for the development of young musicians."

The Prinicipal of Rhenish Music School in Cologne Tilman Fischer and the Principal of the Middle School of CCOM Na Mu La also made their speeches respectively in the ceremony and expressed their expectations and good wishes for the cooperation.
