CCOM Ph.D. Student Tian Tian Wins the First Place of Symphony Section in the George Enescu International Composition Competition 2016

In September 2016, Tian Tian, a Ph.D. student of Composition Department of CCOM, won the First Place of Symphony Section with his composition Orchestra Concerto in the George Enescu International Composition Competition 2016. Tian Tian's advisor is Professor Qin Wenchen. The George Enescu International Competition included four categories of composition, cell, violin and piano. It aims at providing a show platform for young musicians from all over the world. The George Enescu International Competition is the biggest classical international competition in Romania and one of the biggest music festivals in Eastern Europe.

The theme of 2016 Competition is "Giving the Power of Life Dreaming" which expresses Organizing Committee's desire to encourage young competitors to participate in the Competition and display their outstanding talents in front of the Jury of the Competition and all audiences. The Composition Competition of George Enescu Competition includes two sections: symphony and chamber music. Through the strict evaluation of seven judges, one prize winner for each section would be selected by the end.

Tian Tian's Winning Composition Orchestra Concerto was composed between 2013 and 2014. It was composed for commemorating three great literati in different periods: Qu Yuan, Wang Guowei and Lao She. In the composition, the composer expresses his deep concern on literati's soul, as well as his thoughts on the relationship between changing times and individual's fate.
