President of CCOM Yu Feng Meets with President and CEO of the Philadelphia Orchestra Allison Vulgamore and her Retinue

On May 26, 2016, Ms. Allison Vulgamore, President and Chief Executive Officer of the Philadelphia Orchestra, Mr. Ryan Fleur, Executive Vice President of PO, and Ms. Wang Yixun, Senior Counselor and the representative of China in Asia Society visited the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing. The President of CCOM Yu Feng met with the guests in the South Hall of Prince Chun Mansion.

Founded in 1900, the Philadelphia Orchestra is one of the most famous five orchestras in the United States. The host and guest reviewed the historical moment that the Philadelphia Orchestra visited and performed in the People's Republic of China in 1973. As the first American orchestra of ice-breaking visit in the People's Republic of China in 1970s, the Philadelphia Orchestra has a profound friendship with China.

President of CCOM Yu heaped praise on the high artistic level and successful operation of PO and introduced CCOM's achievements on teaching and composition. He stated that we were willing to develop the cooperation with music institutes all over the world, especially with the Philadelphia Orchestra, with an open mind. He also emphasized that our school, as a music conservatory in China, had some similarities and differences comparing to the music institutes in western countries. President Yu pointed out that our school could regularly recommend excellent compositions composed by contemporary Chinese composers for PO and suggested PO to launch Chinese modern compositions concert series or other collaborating projects in their music festivals.

President of PO Vulgamore introduced that PO paid great attention to the musical education on teenagers and the public. She said that PO was willing to continue to be the music cultural connection between China and the United State and hoped to promote long term cooperation on the aspects of orchestral training and conductor masterclass during the coming music tour in China. She further suggested that CCOM and PO could think about outdoor opera performances and other unique collaborating projects taking advantage of CCOM's beautiful ancient campus. She believed that the cooperation with CCOM on academic area would become a new chapter of PO history in Chinese musical education field.

The Director of President's Office of CCOM Zhao Hai, Director of International Affairs Office Liu Hongzhu, Deputy Director of International Affairs Office Tao Qian attended the meeting. After the meeting, Director Liu and Deputy Director Tao accompanied the guests to visit the rehearsal hall of China Youth Symphony Orchestra and the newly completed Opera House.
