On June 26th, 2009, Huang Nansong, the piano student of the Middle School affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music, won first place at the 6th Tchaikovsky International Young Musicians' Competition (Piano). His advisor is Zhang Jin. Huang is the second student of CCOM who won the first place at this competition since Lang Lang won it in 1995. The piano competition consists of three rounds. A total of 46 contestants (selected from nearly one hundred applicants entering their names for the competition) coming from China, South Korea, Russia, Japan, the United States, etc. participated into the competition. Six contestants entered the final round and performed concertos with the South Korea Gyeonggi Orchestra.
On June 27th, 2009, Zhu Ke, the violin student of the Middle School affiliated to the Central Conservatory of Music, won fifth place at the 6th Tchaikovsky International Young Musicians' Competition (Violin). His advisor is Tong Weidong, and his piano accompanist is Huang Mengmeng. The violin competition also consists of three rounds. A total of 27 contestants (selected from more than sixty applicants entering their names for the competition) participated into the competition. The six contestants of the final round came from China, South Korea, and the United States. They played concerts with the Moscow Symphony Orchestra.
