2010 is the "Chinese Language Year" in Russia held by Chinese and Russian Governments; it is also "the 130th Anniversary of Classical Russian Opera Eugene Onegin's World Premiere." According to the Academic Collaboration Agreement signed by the Central Conservatory of Music and the Moscow Tchaikovsky Conservatory, the two institutes joint-performed opera Eugene Onegin and Chinese Composition Concert in Moscow.
The cooperation between CCOM and MTC is the first academic communication since two institutes had broken off relations in 1960s. It has profound significance for both institutes and music circles in China and Russia. Led by the Vice President Xu Changjun, the Delegation of CCOM consisting of performance group and school's administrative representatives visited MTC and had communications with the faculty and students of MTC.
It is worth mentioning that Ms. Guo Shuzhen, the world-renowned soprano, the professor of CCOM, the Director of Opera Center of CCOM, and the alumna of MTC in 1950s, took up the post of the Artistic Director of opera Eugene Onegin. the director was Nikolaya-cuznetov. The conductors were Pavel Lando and Lin Tao.
The academic event included three performances of opera Eugene Onegin (two at the Music Hall of MTC on January 23rd & 25th, 2010; and one at the Pushkin State Museum of Fine Arts on January 24th) and one Chinese Composition Concert for the project of "Chinese Language Year" in Russia at the Rachmaninov Hall on January 26th. The excellent performances presented by the students of CCOM were well received by the Russian audiences. They achieved a great success.
The Ambassador of Chinese Embassy in Russia Li Hui, the President of Sino-Russian Friendship Association, and the President of MTC delivered speeches to heap praises on the joint performances and academic communications. The Chinese Composition Concert, performed by the students of CCOM and some Chinese students studying in Russia, attracted numerous audiences. In the end of the concert, the performers and audiences sung the old Soviet song "the Evenings Near Moscow" together. Some audiences moved to tears.
The academic communication event is a high level cultural and educational communication, which represents a successful cooperation between Chinese and Russian young musical talents. It is also helpful for improving the international influences of CCOM and presenting Chinese musical educational level abroad. The event, with the "Chinese Language Year" Project in Russia in 2010, aims to promote the educational and cultural communication and strengthen the friendship between Chinese and Russian people.
