On the afternoon of January 19th, 2010, the leaders of CCOM, middle-ranking cadres, and teachers and students of musicology department attended the signing ceremony of "Xu Xiaoping Arts and Education Foundation" Agreement at the Recital Hall of Multi-functional Building. The Director of President's Office Liu Hongzhu hosted the ceremony. Professor Wang Cizhao, the President of CCOM; Mr. Xu Xiaoping, the contributor to the Foundation, the trustee of New Oriental Education & Technology Group, the Dean of New Oriental Cultural Development Research Institute, and the alumnus of CCOM; Professor Yuan Jingfang, the Dean of Modern Distance Music Education College and Xu's former teacher; Ms. Guo Shulan, the Party Secretary of CCOM; Professor Dai Jiafang and Professor Zhou Qingqing, Xu's classmates, delivered warm speeches successively. President Wang Cizhao and Mr. Xu Xiaoping signed the agreement in the applauses.
As Xu's classmate and school's leader, President Wang introduced the processes of the establishment of "Xu Xiaoping Arts and Education Foundation." On behalf of the teachers and students, and the alumni of CCOM, President Wang expressed the appreciations to Mr. Xu Xiaoping and the congratulations to the Foundation's establishment. The fund in the amount of 10 million Yuan RMB will be used for the financial need of "Chinese Golden Bell Awards for Musical Theory & Critics Contests," which will actively improve the development of musical theory and musical critics in China. President Wang stressed in particular that the donations of alumnus Xu were all from his personal incomes. Xu is admirable for his feeling of gratitude to his alma mater and the deep friendship to fellow students and friends.
Xu Xiaoping emphasized in his speech that, he had not only laid a solid cultural foundation, but also grown up as a mature person to conduct himself and handle affairs well during the years in CCOM. Now, he is a responsible person for the development of the society and also a person having dreams. He regarded doing things for alma mater as a duty of every alumnus. In the end of the speech, he hoped that CCOM can be a world-class music conservatory.
Professor Yuan Jingfang, Xu's teacher, said that, as a graduate of musicology department, Xu fully understood the loneliness and difficulty of musicological research. His generous support for the musicological field made the teachers and students of musicology department feel warm. Several decades ago, Xu Xiaoping prided himself on entering the CCOM; and decades later, the school was also proud of cultivating such a successful person.
In the ceremony, Professor Dai Jiafang and Professor Zhou Qingqing, Xu's classmates, also recalled the five-year school life in the college. Secretary Guo said at the end of the ceremony that, Mr. Xu's two donations made her feel his profound friendship to school. His donations would have deep influences on the development of musicology and the construction of CCOM.
