Curtain Rises on the 9th Music Festival of the Central Conservatory of Music

On the evening of Dec. 11th, 2009, with the opening piece "Fanfarria" by Eduardo Gamboa, the opening ceremony concert of the 9th Music Festival of CCOM was unveiled solemnly at the Concert Hall of National Center for the Performing Arts.

The Annual Music Festival of CCOM is not only a comprehensive achievements display on teaching, performance, composition, and academic research fields; but also a great event of music education in China. Through all performances and activities, the Music Festival of CCOM will improve the quality of school's teaching and academic level, enhance communications among music conservatories and colleges at home and abroad, and promote the internationalized development of professional music education in China.

The opening concert is a special concert commemorating the 200th Anniversary of Haydn's Death and Mendelssohn's Birth. Professor Han Xiaoming, the Artistic Director of the festival, delivered a speech before the performance. He introduced that the 9th Music Festival of CCOM will present 22 extraordinary concerts from Dec. 11th to 20th at some well-known performance venues in Beijing, such as the Concert Hall of NCPA, Tianqiao Theatre, the Concert Hall of CCOM, etc.

In the concert, firstly, the renowned conductor Manfred Neuman conducted China Youth Symphony Orchestra to play the "Overture" from A Midsummer Night's Dream by Felix Mendelssohn. It is inspired by the same title play of Shakespeare, which displays mythic fantasy and full of poetic imagination. Next was a classical trumpet composition, Trumpet Concerto in Eb Major by Joseph Haydn. The renowned Italian trumpet player Marco Pierobon played the solo. The music presents Haydn's active and happy style. The last composition was Berlioz's Symphonie Fantastique, which is an autobiographical symphony. A young man's fanatical, hopeless love and beautiful fantasy are expressed in the passionate music.

The concert ended with the warm applauses from the audiences. A high quality performance is a good start of the festival. We believe that the Music Festival of CCOM will present high-grade artistic compositions and contribute to the elegant artistic performance in China.
