National Universities Joint Conference on Talent Construction in the International Education and Cultural Communication of Chinese Music & Report-Back Concert by Returned Confucius Institute Expatriates of CCOM to be Held at CCOM

From December 2 to 5, 2016, an academic activity of initiative significance for the international education and cultural communication of Chinese music named "National Universities Joint Conference on Talent Construction in the International Education and Cultural Communication of Chinese Music & Report-Back Concert by Returned Confucius Institute Expatriates of CCOM" will be hosted by CCOM, organized by Center for the Exchange and Experience of Chinese and Foreign Music Cultures & Music Confucius Institute Office and co-organized by National MFA Educational Instruction Group Secretariat/MFA and Academic Degree Office of CCOM.

The conference will invite representatives from nearly 20 national conservatories, art academies, normal universities and comprehensive universities to discuss how to construct an efficient and complete selection mechanism and training mode for internationalized talents of Chinese music around the theme "the talent-cultivation and mechanism construction in the 'international education and cultural communication of Chinese music'" in "experience-sharing meetings" and "talent-construction joint conferences" to fulfill the urgent needs for internationalized music talents in the world especially in the Confucius Institutes. The conference will set up a Working Committee for "Talent Construction in the International Education and Cultural Communication of Chinese Music", establishing and improving the national selection mechanism of expatriate volunteers and teachers with music specialties, and thereby integrating the excellent international music talent resources of national universities and jointly facilitating the "going out" of Chinese music.

Center for the Exchange and Experience of Chinese and Foreign Music Cultures of CCOM (hereinafter referred to as Center) was set up based on the "Music Confucius Institute Office of CCOM" in September 2014 after being approved. The Center is the only "Base for Chinese International Promotion" in China that focuses on the two-way communication of foreign and Chinese music culture as well as the only comprehensive platform coordinating with multiparty forces including domestic and overseas art academies, research institutions and relevant associations to construct a comprehensive platform covering teaching, performance, research and experience functions pertaining to the exchange between Chinese and foreign music cultures. During the four years, CCOM has successively dispatched 23 volunteers, 4 teachers and 2 Chinese directors to the Confucius Institutes in Denmark, the United States and the UK, opened an optional credit course "The International Music Education and Practice of Confucius Institute" and accumulated abundant personnel selection and cultivation experience.

In order to further combine mechanism construction with vivid music practice, the host will also hold a fascinating "Report-Back Concert by Returned Confucius Institute Expatriates of CCOM" and before the concert, the inauguration ceremony of the Working Committee for "Talent Construction in the International Education and Cultural Communication of Chinese Music". There are a lot of highlights to be presented in the concert: the chamber music pieces "Millennium" and "Dialogue" composed by Tian Jinglun during her tenure in Denmark as a member of the second group of expatriate volunteers; the cross-cultural piece "Nightingale" which will be jointly performed by two Danish youths Katrine Schmidt and Stefanie Paaske in cooperation with young Chinese musicians; "Like You, Like Me" and "Inscribe with My Knight's Heart" composed by new-Chinese art composer Laoluo with distinctive musical perspectives; the Chinese-Western-combined version "In the Depth of Night" which was arranged based on Beijing Opera tunes; as well as classical traditional Chinese pieces "Wild Geese Alighting on the Sandbank" and "Verve of Tanci". The performers will also share with the audience their feelings about the overseas communication of Chinese music culture.

Besides, the "Piano and Bassoon Concert by Romanian Musicians" co-sponsored by the Center and the Romanian Cultural Institute in Beijing, co-organized by the Piano Department and Orchestral Instruments Department of CCOM will be held at 15:30, December 2. At 19:30, December 2, the academic lecture entitled "The Root and Future of Chinese Music" by the new-Chinese art composer Laoluo will be held, burnishing the event with dual connotations-construction of communication mechanism and exploration of communication content, and facilitating the in-depth development of the international education and cultural communication of Chinese music.
