Curtain Rises on the Third CCOM Mozart International Clarinet Competition

The Third CCOM Mozart International Clarinet Competition will be launched at the Central Conservatory of Music in Beijing on May 18th, 2016.

The CCOM Mozart International Clarinet Competition aims at establishing the platform for clarinet talents and promoting the development of Chinese clarinet career. The Competition was founded in 2011 by Professor Fai Lei. He is also the Art Director of the competition from the First Competition to now. Supported by the school leaders of CCOM, the CCOM Mozart International Clarinet Competition has become the most authoritative clarinet competition in China.

David Shifrin, the well-renowned clarinetist and music educator, is in charge of the Chair of Jury in this Competition. David Shifrin is the tenured professor of School of Music at Yale University, the honorary professor of CCOM, and the Artistic Director of Chamber Music Northwest in Portland. He was Artistic Director of the Chamber Music Society of Lincoln Center. Mr. Shifrin’s many honors include an Avery Fisher Career Grant and a Fellowship from the National Endowment for the Arts. He has also received three Grammy nominations.

Other Jury members include Professor Richard Hawkins from Oberlin Conservatory of Music in the United States, Mr. Xavier Bouvier, the Deputy Director of Geneva HEM, Professor Nancy Braithwaite from Rotterdam Conservatory, Mr. Giammarco Casani, the Principal Clarinet of the Rome Symphony Orchestra, Mr. Martin Choy, the Chairman of Hong Kong Band Directors Association, Professor Lin Peiyun from Soochow University in Taiwan, and Professor Huang Di from National Taiwan University of Arts.

There are total 151 competitors to participate into the compeition from the countries, such as the United States, Australia, Singapore, South Korea, and the regions of Hong Kong and Taiwan, etc. During the competition, there will be several wonderful concerts, such as David Shifrin and Amber Quartet Concert, the Magic Flute Quartet from Taiwan; and will also conduct several masterclasses. The Competition will provide wonderful opportunities for the students and young competitors to enjoy world class performances and feel closely the style of the masters.
