MUSICACOUSTICA-BEIJING is one of the most important music festivals in China. It presents a series of electronic music concerts by prestigious musicians of different schools and styles from all around the world. Its traditional activities also include lectures, master classes, presentation of academic writings, new installation art and new devices exhibition. There are also National Composition Competition.
MUSICACOUSTICA-BEIJING was established in 1994. Under the management of Professor Zhang Xiaofu, the festival has developed, prospered and extended its program over the last sixteen years. Musicians from all over the world are meeting in Beijing at the end of October each year. The Central Conservatory of Music (CCOM) has been the most important sponsor of the festival. It also provides performance venues for MUSICACOUSTICA-BEIJING. The Center for Electronic Music of China (CEMC) of CCOM and Electronic Music Association of China (EMAC) are responsible for the management and organization of the festival. Through the cooperative efforts of international academic organizations such as ICEM, ICMA and financial supports from different enterprises, MUSICACOUSTICA-BEIJING is becoming a real feast of music. The festival is now the largest of its kind in Asia and its influence spreading to other part of the world. In the last 16 years, the festival cooperated with leading academic organizations such as INA-GRM, IMEB, GRAME, EMS and Dartmouth College. Among more than a hundred guest-composers and scholars, include Jon Appleton, Paul Lansky, Daniel Teruggi, Charles Dodge, Christian Clozier, Barry Schrader, Nell Rolnick, Marc Battier, Leigh Landy, etc. Hundreds of masterpieces by composers include Pierre Schaeffer, Pierre Henry, Luc Ferrari, Francois Bayle, Curtis Roads were premiered here in China, and more new compositions were given world premiere in the festival. As a project of the festival, the National Composition Competition attracts and benefited young composers from all over China.
MUSICACOUSTICA-BEIJING holds different themes each year. For instance, the theme of 2005 is "MIX"; 2006 is "LANGUAGE"; 2007 is "SOUND-OLYMPICS"; 2008 is "ASIA"; 2009 is "INTERACTION" and 2010 is "DIVERSITY" The festival embodies the current of the development of computer and electronic music. The development of computer technology has helped electronic music advances rapidly, and we believe that MUSICACOUSTICA-BEIJING will have even more room to grow. Together, let's build the most beautiful future of electronic music.
