Highlights of the 2007 BIMFA

It was in the month of August, 2007 when we opened our doors and our hearts to welcome BIMFA students, and artists in Beijing and to commence the two intensive weeks of musical and cultural interchange and communion. It is easy to say that for two complete weeks, all of us were profoundly engrossed and immersed in music, while living the culture surrounding us. We are proud and overjoyed to tell you that judging from the testimonies of our students and faculty, the 2007 Third Beijing International Music Festival & Academy (BIMFA) was a glorious success for our organization.

  • BIMFA's growth as a music festival in the past 4 years has been tremendous and our student body has nearly doubled since its founding in 2004. This year our enrollment has reached over 120 students from 8 different countries including 74 pianists, 10 violinists, 10 violists, 10 cellists, 3 double bass and 7 flute players and more than a dozen auditors/special students. We offered our students over 500 hours of individual lessons, 16 master classes, 5 student performances/recitals and 3 exhilarating rounds of concerto competitions for the  piano, strings and flute divisions.
  • Our distinguished artist-faculty, numbering 30 this year from various national backgrounds and established music institutions, gave an outstanding concert series of 4 solo and chamber music concerts at the Concert Hall of the prestigious Central Conservatory of Music, drawing audiences of artists, students and music lovers from Beijing and beyond.
  • Our host school, the Music School of Central Conservatory, collaborated with BIMFA by providing the fine instruments, teaching studios, practice facility and performance spaces in addition to the very comfortable accommodations for our participants. This year, BIMFA's ambitious excursion program offered 5 cultural sightseeing trips covering a wide variety of sights in and around Beijing.
